We must Act

Another school shooting. An ELEMENTARY school shooting. Another one! 14 elementary children are dead. An elementary kid is between the age of 5 – 11 years old. What the f*ck are we doing wrong and why is it not our government’s top priority to fix it IMMEDIATELY?

We live in the greatest country in the world… at least we want to believe that. You’re telling me that in the greatest country in the world… our 5 – 11 year old children cannot go to school safely… can’t go to the movies without an eerie sense of danger and fear, can’t ride the subway, can’t go to the grocery store, can’t go to Walmart, can’t go to a concert… do I need to go on? Why isn’t this priority number one?

We have a serious mental health problem in this country. How did we get here… to a place where there is a mass shooting seemingly once a week… when ANOTHER one happens… that’s what we say. We ask each other, “you hear about the latest shooting?”… and usually it has to be followed with, “which one?”. This is unacceptable and absolutely sickening. Can we take a step back from our political affiliations for long enough to realize that it shouldn’t matter if you identity as democrat or republican… our babies are f*cking dying! They are senselessly killing each other and we are arguing about the 2nd amendment. Shame on us.

We must do better. We must work together to fix this problem and the mental health crisis that fuels it. I am beyond devastated and absolutely terrified that one day… my two boys could be in danger while trying to learn. While doing the exact thing that their mother and I ask of them to do… go to school, pay attention, have fun, participate, learn. I can hardly even get myself to write the words or fathom the thought of this type of thing touching home. But it has touched so many homes already… innocent lives lost… families destroyed.

Please start the conversation out there. This is not a political problem… this is a human problem. WE MUST PROTECT OUR CHILDREN.

This has to stop.
