There’s a quote from Maya Angelou that appropriately highlights the importance of bridges. “You can’t really know where you’re going until you know where you have been.” We do not experience a series of isolated, disconnected events, but rather a continuum as we grow and evolve. We learn from our mistakes and reject the idea of repeating them. We cautiously explore new areas and concepts based on past lessons learned.
We bridge our lives from one part to the next. Some are small and almost imperceptibly, like a single-lane rock bridge on a lonely country road. Others are substantial, standing the test of time, like the majestic Brooklyn Bridge overlooking New York’s East River for over a century. Regardless of the bridge type, they all serve a purpose, taking us from one side of our lives to the next as we learn and grow along the way.
