So many mixed emotions for this one. First and foremost…because of my specific situation… I want to celebrate all of the Dad’s out there that are behind these walls (or about to be) and still put forth the effort to be the Dad that their kids deserve. The Dad that cares… and shows it… that calls… that emails… that writes… that remembers the events and the milestones even though they cannot attend them… that tells their kids that they love them… that does everything in his power to still be a Dad despite his circumstances… Happy Father’s Day to you!
I know it is not easy… I know it is excruciating and heart breaking 99.9% of the time… but we put ourselves here and we must endure and persevere for those kids out there that are waiting for their Dad to come home. We press on so that when that day comes… a relationship is there… a bond is there… there is a foundation built… it is certainly not the relationship that could have been or should have been but it is there and from that day forward… we will be there as well.
Next and most importantly… I want to say Happy Father’s Day to the children of us Dads… because our kids are the ones that truly should be celebrated today and every day. The moment that we were sentenced and removed from their physical world… they were sentenced right alongside us but unlike us… they did nothing wrong. Our kids are the ones that should be held up… should be constantly told how incredible of a job that they are doing… how proud we are of them for navigating this crazy world that we call life. There is no Father’s Day without our little buddies… so thank you to the kids… for allowing us Dad’s to be Dad’s and for giving us the greatest gift that this world has to offer.
Stay Healthy. Stay Active.
Happy Father’s Day Dads… enjoy every moment.
