We, as humans (especially in the United States), go through life making choices that fit our preferences. This is especially true regarding the people we surround ourselves with in our daily lives. We learn and are influenced by the people closest to us. But if we surround ourselves with like-minded, carbon copies of ourselves….people that make us feel comfortable because we see ourselves in them and their beliefs… how do we grow? Prison strips this away. It forces us to relinquish control of our surroundings and if embraced… allows us to grow through the discomfort until it becomes comfortable.
